News on THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (Possible Spoilers)

For the upcoming November 24th issue of Empire magazine, there is A LOT of news revolving around The Dark Knight Rises. Yeah. I'm buying a copy. First off, I shall begin with the cover of the magazine. Empire has two different covers they'll be releasing: one of Batman and one of Bane. Both look fucking badass. Here they are, courtesy of Empire:

My first thought was: What exactly is that awesome thing Batman is holding and where can I get one?!  It may just be me, but it somewhat reminds me of the awesome stun-gun that Batman uses in Arkham City. If you have any other possible ideas on what it may be, post a comment and speak your thoughts!

Check out the rest of the news after the jump!! There are several new images, and an explanation to why Bane is wearing that mask. There are possible spoilers, so be alert

SURPRISE! Thought I'd just put the photos here without any actual warning. Anywho. Yeah. So. Here are some of the details revolving The Dark Knight Rises.
  • TDKR will take place 8 years after the events of The Dark Knight, as Nolan says, "So he’s an older Bruce Wayne; he’s not in a great state.”
  • As you all know, the prologue for TDKR will be playing in 70 MM IMax theaters in front of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. Here's what Nolan says about the prologue, "“The Prologue is basically the first six, seven minutes of the film. It’s the introduction to Bane and a taste of the rest of the film. With Bane we are looking to give Batman a physical challenge that he hasn’t had before. In terms of finishing our story and increasing its scope, we were trying to craft an epic.”
  • Now the big question, why does Bane wear that mask? Costume designer Lindy Hemming gives the scoop, "He was injured early in his story. He’s suffering from pain and he needs gas to survive. He cannot survive the pain without the mask. The pipes from the mask go back along his jaw line and feed into the thing at the back where there are two canisters of what ever it is…the anesthetic.”

It's pretty interesting stuff if you ask me. For one, will we see Bruce Wayne kinda just bumming it out, playing some Skyrim or other futuristic game with Alfred criticizing him whenever he dies? I highly doubt that, but it's a helluva funny thought so deal with it. It'll be really interesting to see what kind of state Bruce really is in.

As for the prologue of the film, it seems like the beginning of the film is similar in a way to how The Dark Knight started, with The Joker taking up the first 10 minutes or so of the movie. It worked the first time for Nolan, so maybe it'll work again? As far as explaining why Nolan chose Bane, here's what he had to say:
“So when you’re looking to continue the story – in this case finish Bruce Wayne and Batman’s story, as we see it – then you certainly don’t want a watered-down version of a character you’ve already done. You want a different archetype. What Bane represents in the comics is the ultimate physical villain.”
Ultimate. Physical. Villain. Yeah, that's Bane alright. The fucker is pretty damn big, and he is strong considering in the comics he breaks Batman's back. What did Tom Hardy have to say about this 'ultimate physical villain' character?
“He’s brutal. Brutal. He’s a big dude who’s incredibly clinical, in the fact that he has a result-based and oriented fighting style. It’s not about fighting. It’s about carnage. The style is heavy-handed, heavy-footed, it’s nasty. Anything from small-joint manipulation to crushing skulls, crushing rib cages, stamping on shins and knees and necks and collarbones and snapping heads off and tearing his fists through chests, ripping out spinal columns. He is a terrorist in mentality as well as brutal action.”
It seems that what Joker presented to TDK with toying with the Batman's mind, Bane in TDKR will be looking more to absolutely destroy the Bat. It seems like this film will have a lot of difference from the two before it, but am I worried? Not at all. Nolan, in my opinion, has not created a bad movie yet. And this one seems like it'll be just as dominant.

ALSO! Look out for a possible trailer before Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, as well as a possible teaser trailer for The Hobbit!!!!!

The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012, and stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, and plenty of other people.
