Robert Duvall joining Tom Cruise in ONE SHOT; Rooney Mara being cast in the OLDBOY remake?

I know absolutely nothing about the film One Shot. All I know is Tom Cruise is starring in it, and generally, that would leave me a tad worried. But. BUT. After actually looking into what this film is all about, I'm actually pretty interested. Richard Jenkins joined the cast last week, and now Variety reports that Robert Duvall is now on board. Count me in. According to Variety, Duvall has a small but pivotal role which is significant to Tom Cruise's character Jack Reacher and his investigation into a sniper accused of murdering five people. I guess this is probably where I post the synopsis for the film, which will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie based off of the novel by Lee Child's.

Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me.
And sure enough, ex—military investigator Jack Reacher is coming. He knows this shooter–a trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot. Reacher is certain something is not right–and soon the slam-dunk case explodes.
Now Reacher is teamed with a beautiful young defense lawyer, moving closer to the unseen enemy who is pulling the strings. Reacher knows that no two opponents are created equal. This one has come to the heartland from his own kind of hell. And Reacher knows that the only way to take him down is to match his ruthlessness and cunning–and then beat him shot for shot.

The film will be released February 8, 2013, and also stars Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo. After the break I'll go over the rumors involving the Oldboy remake.

John Goodman's FLIGHT has come in; Trailer for EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE

I've been keeping up with the casting news involving Robert Zemeckis' Flight. Well, you'll be happy to know that one more big name has been attached to it. The one and only John Goodman. You all know him in some way, whether it be from his voice in Monsters Inc. as Sully, or maybe from The Big Lebowski as Walter (by the way, Happy Rosh Hashanah for you Walter). In a report from Deadline, Goodman's character is "a friend of the pilot (Denzel Washington) who helps him come to terms with his problems." Other stars in the film include Don Cheadle, Bruce Greenwood, and Kelly Reilly.

And if you just need more John Goodman, stay tuned for the trailer for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close after the break.

Several Pieces of News Involving TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

First, we'll start off with Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, the thriller starring Gary Oldman and directed by Tomas Alfredson. In an interview with The Guardian, Gary Oldman tells them,
"I loved playing George and there are of course films to be made of John Le Carré’s other books featuring George, with Smiley’s People and The Honourable Schoolboy being the obvious ones. But I would insist on quite a few factors, such as I would really want Tomas Alfredson to direct it again.
There you have it. If StudioCanal is wise, and I'm sure they are, they won't pass up on the opportunity to create a franchise when you have a lead actor such as Gary Oldman, who's getting rave reviews in the film and Oscar consideration already.

Trailer for HOUSE OF LIES; Millennium Acquires RAMPART

Don Cheadle seems to be on a role lately with being the funniest human being in existence. First, he takes on the role of Captain Planet. Now, in the trailer for the new Showtime series House Of Lies, he shows how brilliant he is again. I have no idea what the show is about, but I honestly can care less. The show stars Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell (VERONICA MARS FUCK YEAH), Ben Schwartz (if you watch Parks and Rec, you'll know him), and other people who I don't know who aren't as important I'd say. The trailer can be found here. It won't disappoint. Oh yeah. What the shows about. Um. It centers on a “a team of cutthroat management consultants who will do anything in their pursuit of money.” There ya go. Showtime starting in January, remember it.

News involving Rampart, starring Woody Harrelson, after the break.

Casting news for BLOOD; Possible Lead for PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, AND ZOMBIES; THE LONE RANGER Is Back To Life

Several things. Let's start off with Nick Murphy's film Blood. I've never heard of the guy, never heard of any movie he's done, but he'll be put on the spot with the cast he's bringing together for his newest film. He's managed to get Paul Bettany, Brian Cox, and Stephen Graham to star. This, my friends, is impressive. I've always been a huge fan of Bettany ever since I first saw him in A Knights Tale. Brian Cox is one of the best actors I've seen and is able to fill in any role, from being a chief of highway patrol to being the worst enemy of Wolverine. And then there's Stephen Graham, who should be much more known by now but people seem to forget about him. Most people have recently discovered him due to the popular TV series Boardwalk Empire, but he's been in fantastic movies such as Snatch. and Gangs of New York. All in all, this seems to be a fantastic start to the movie. The basic plot for the film centers on “two policemen who kill a murder suspect and are then plunged into chaos when they are forced to investigate their own crime.”

After the break, I'll give you the news on the other headlines.

Trailer for MAN ON A LEDGE; Details on the MASS EFFECT movie.

The first trailer for the thriller Man On A Ledge, starring Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, and Ed Harris, has been released by Summit. Worthington plays a cop who is put into prison for a crime that he did not do and manages to break out and, well, as the title of the movie suggests, he reaches a point where he is on a ledge and prepared to jump to prove his innocence. I really didn't care much for the film when I heard about it, but after watching the trailer, I will admit, I was wrong. I think this could definitely be a nice little thriller to keep an eye on, and definitely something that could be entertaining. The film is slated to be released January 13, 2011. The trailer will be posted after the break, as well as news on the Mass Effect film.

Bunches of News for September 22nd

I have a lot to catch up on. If you think there was a decent amount of stuff going on the 21st, yesterday was just a massive amazing film news day. I'll give you tidbits of each relevant piece of information to me after the break.

September 21st News

It's been a busy couple of days so I have been falling behind a bit, so I'll just do some very brief news from the 21st  after the break.

New Trailers for J. EDGAR and THE SWELL SEASON

The biopic J. EDGAR, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Armie Hammer, now has a trailer that was just released by Warner Brothers. I've always been a fan of Eastwood and everything he's done, and Leo seems to have this role down, from the accent (which I've noticed Leo can pull off just about any accent and sound extremely convincing) to the intensity of the role that he's been given. I'm expecting this movie to be fantastic, and this trailer certainly does not disappoint. The film opens November 9th, 2011.

Since the youtube option on the site is being annoying, I can only post the link for the trailer, so, here it is.

After the break, the trailer for THE SWELL SEASON.

Movie Review - Get Low

Rating: 8.5/10

As a movie lover, there are two actors who have yet to dissapoint me in anything I've seen them in. Robert Duvall is always entertaining in any film that he's a part of and always knows how to give a powerful performance. Bill Murray will forever be one of my favorite actors who can always make me laugh with the slightest facial expression or witty comment. When you combine the two, you have a fantastically funny movie, yet a movie that has heart and soul. All in all, Get Low lives on the acting of these two superb actors.

Starting off with a house that is ablaze and a man running from it, we can only assume that this man running is Felix Bush (Robert Duvall), and that at some point in the story, we will find out what's going on and why. It's really the way storytelling works. But until that time comes, the story focuses on the life of Felix Bush and what type of man he is. You can use the word rascal, you can use the word hermit, but how does he describe himself? "I am."

When Felix hears about the death of his old friend, he stops for a bit and is left to his thoughts (as it's been for 40 years) and makes the decision that he wants to have his own funeral sometime in the near future. And make it a party. While he's alive. While this would sound crazy to some, Frank Quinn (Bill Murray) is interested in the idea since with business slow (meaning no one is dying in his area), he feels that this could be a way that he makes money.

In working the details for the funeral party, Frank sends his assistant Buddy (Lucas Black) to do most of the dirty work, as in talk to Felix and figure out exactly what he wants. As Frank and Buddy work out the bigger picture for the funeral party, this causes Felix to have a new spring in his step that was unseen before. While he's making a rare appearance in town, he sees Mattie Darrow (Sissy Spacek) for the first time in years. With this party, Felix has one more large demand: to get Rev. Charlie Jackson (Bill Cobbs) to come and speak on Felix's behalf, only for the reason that the reverand is the only man alive who knows what happened on that night of the farmhouse fire.

All of this eventually leads up to the big day, where the truth comes out. Felix's speech seems like one that he has been practicing since the day of the event, and for once we see the man for who he really is. For every bit of foreshadowing that occured in the movie, nothing could truly prepare us for what we were meant to see and hear, but for the first time throughout the whole movie, we see Felix at peace with himself.

Get Low isn't a masterpiece by any means. It's a truly fantastic genre piece with character actors that play their roles to perfection. The one actor who truly stood out was Lucas Black, who has had smaller roles in action movies, but in this drama-type piece, he's the most entertaining person on screen that's not named Duvall or Murray. Another person to note is Aaron Schneider, who directed the film. With Get Low being his directorial debut, it seems like he's on the right path, and with his knowledge of being a cinematographer, I'm excited to see what he's coming up with next.

First Trailer for PREMIUM RUSH starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt? Michael Shannon? Count me in. These two face off against each other in this new action/thriller Premium Rush directed by David Koepp (Ghost Town). Also starring Jamie Chung, Dania Ramirez, and Aasif Mandvi from The Daily Show, the film focuses on a New York bicycle messenger named Wilee (played by Gordon-Levitt) who's routine delivery turns into a situation that may end up being more than he's ever bargained for. I'm loving what I see in the trailer, and at first I had an urge to give this whole biking thing a try. But I remembered that I like to live life without...well...dying. A link to the trailer will be posted after the break.

Lucasfilm Launches STAR WARS “Use the Force For Good”

I saw this on Collider, and I'm not gunna change any words. I'm just gunna post everything they said, since it's truly perfect and spot on. But before I do that, I'll give you my own opinion. The video is beautiful. I love you Emma Stone. And Bill Hader is one of the funniest men in comedy and really should get a leading role so he can truly expand on his amazing humor. And now, after the break, the greatest Star Wars video in history.

New Trailer for THE MUPPETS Takes On THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO

The Muppets are truly fantastic. But even that doesn't describe their most recent parody trailer of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. We've seen them take on a regular romantic comedy, then The Hangover II, and The Green Lantern. But now, with their best parody trailer yet, they take on David Fincher's newest film coming out later on this year. While that trailer is actually one of the best I've seen, The Muppets may actually have truly taken the Best Trailer of the Year with their newest one. If you had no interest seeing the film before, then watch this. If you still have no interest, then I question if you have a funny bone in your body. It shows a bunch of cameos, several shots with Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones, and many other beautiful people. Watch this trailer and be amazed.

Sundance Film Festival is Coming to a City Near You!

That's right people. Just because you're unable to head out to Park City, Utah, doesn't mean you're out of luck to see any films from Sundance. For the first time for the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, films will be screened in numerous other cities from January 19th-29th. For those of us in New York that are wondering if we were chosen, well, Brooklyn, New York is where you'll have to go. Here's the press release confirming the news, as well as the other cities and venues that will hold a screening after the break.

GHOSTBUSTERS In Theaters; First trailer for Cameron Crowe's WE BOUGHT A ZOO

Brought to you by The Official Ghostbusters Facebook Page, Ivan Reitman's classic will be brought back to the big screen for the first time in 25 years. This comes after the news that Dan Aykroyd is hoping to film the 3rd Ghostbusters film, with or without Bill Murray (which, to be quite honest, I don't see working out all that well.) No other details are known about this return except for the fact that it'll be sometime next month. As someone who wasn't even alive when the movie was in theaters, I'm pretty damn excited to have the chance to get to see it on the big screen.

More news involving Cameron Crowe's newest film after the break

Movie Review - Joyeux Noel

Rating: 8/10

To state the obvious, war is probably one of the hardest things to handle. Whether you're in the war, or have a loved one who is fighting, there's always that idea in your mind that something tragic could happen. This is what every soldier thinks of during these times. But what if, for one, magical day, you could stop fighting, and you could unite with those who you were trying to kill, and celebrate a bit? This took place on Christmas Eve of 1914 in the trenches where the Germans faced the British and the French. For a brief moment, the guns were put down and there was a cease-fire to observe the savior Jesus Christ.

Joyeux Noel presents us with the true events that took place during this cease-fire. While director Christian Carion may have taken some liberty to go a bit over the top, it doesn't change the important aspect that for a brief moment, the war didn't matter. Although with this cease-fire, he was also accurate in depicting what happened to the troops afterwards: Officers and troops were punished for their actions. The Scottish priest that held a sermon in No Man's Land was pretty much verbally abused by his bishop. This is what happens in war when you don't follow orders. You may do something good, but there will always be consequences.

Within the world of the film, we're introduced to several important characters that drive the story. At the beginning we meet two Scottish brothers who sign up for the war: Jonathan and William (Steven Robertson, Robin Laing). Their parish priest, Father Palmer (Gary Lewis) joins them in war as a stretcher bearer. The Scots are led by Lt. Gordon (Alex Ferns) who, indirectly, helps to begin the cease-fire. The Germans are led by Lt. Horstmayer (Daniel Bruhl) who is a Jewish German. A German tenor named Sprink (Benno Furmann) ends up leaving his life as an opera singer to serve his country. The French are led by Lt. Audebert (Guillaume Canet) who takes his orders from his father (Bernard Le Coq) who's in charge of the lines.

On Christmas Eve, the Danish singer Anna Sorensen (Diane Kruger), who is invited to sing for the German's and the Crown Prince, insists on being taken to the front lines. She claims that she wants to sing for the ordinary troops who are fighting, but her main goal is to have the chance to see her lover, Sprink. When she reaches the front lines, she has Sprink get up and sing before his troops. At this moment, the Scots, who have bagpipes with them, begin to play Christmas tunes, and Sprink sings along with the tunes. With the sound of the singing, everyone begins to get up and take a look at what's going on, and within a few minutes, the weapons are down, and the music keeps going on, which eventually leads to a large mass.

I won't go into much more detail about the story since it's definitely something that should be witnessed. The film brings a sentimental side to the war genre, and it's something that's just so rare to see and it's done so beautifully. Just to see the relief on some of the faces of the soldiers, to know that they'll be able to live for at least another day, it's something so pure and so sincere. No one part of the film outdoes the other, and it strikes a balance that numerous films fail to achieve.

If you're looking for a war film to watch, you may want to shy away from this one. There's still a pretty good amount of fighting, but this isn't the movie to watch if you're looking for an all out war where no one survives. If you're looking for something that'll give you that feeling in your heart that, no matter how shitty a situation could be for you, everything will turn out okay in some way, then this would be something to highly consider. I will also mention that the film does require you to read subtitles as there are several different languages spoken, so be prepared for that.

New Addition to Neighborhood Watch; Multiple Cameos in The Expendables 2; Star Trek 2 News

As I posted earlier, Neighborhood Watch has a fabulous comedic cast. Now joining it will be Richard Ayoade (Submarine). Ayoade's directorial and writing debut Submarine was a hit and proved that he could be a positive addition to any cast, so his inclusion to this film gets me pretty excited. It'll also be good for him since it'll get him more exposure and we can all truly celebrate his brilliantness.

The news I'm really excited about now: The Expendables 2. Yeah it'll probably be a clone copy of the first one. What makes this one different already is that both Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme have been given roles in the film. In an interview with EW, Stallone confirms that
“We’ll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme, which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one.”
Another two possibilities for the film that's going around are Nicholas Cage and John Travolta. With the way this film looks to be going, I will gladly see this.

And for anyone who was wondering if J.J. Abrams would be coming back to direct the Star Trek sequel, you can finally exhale. As reported by Vulture, J.J. Abrams is officially directing Star Trek 2. Pre-production for the film is underway, the script should be done sometime soon, and shooting for the film shall begin during the winter time. I loved what Abrams did with the revival of Star Trek, and now with him coming back, I can say that I'm confident that this will be just as good, if not better.

Chris Cooper and Stanley Tucci to join Robert Redford's THE COMPANY YOU KEEP

Whenever I think of Robert Redford, I tend to forget that he directs and go right to him in The Great Gatsby in that god awful dancing scene where Gatsby and Daisy dance, which isn't even in the book and confused me to no end. But he is a pretty damn good director, and he knows how to field a pretty damn good cast. For his next film The Company You Keep, he was able to get Academy Award Winner Chris Cooper (Adaptation, American Beauty) and Academy Award Nominee Stanley Tucci (The Lovely Bones, The Devil Wears Prada). The film is based on the novel of the same name by Neal Gordon, and centers on a former Weather Underground militant who goes on the run after an ambitious young journalist exposes his true identity. Redford will play the militant, while Shia LaBeouf is set as the young reporter.

They are joining a cast that already has Susan Surandon (Thelma & Louise, The Rocky Horror Picture Show), Nick Nolte (The Thin Red Line, Tropic Thunder), Julie Christie (Darling, Finding Neverland), and Richard Jenkins (The Visitor, Let Me In). Filming will begin soon in Vancouver. I love the choices of Cooper and Tucci, and anything that has Richard Jenkins in it excites me, but I've personally never been a fan of Surandon. She's a great actress, just something about her rubs me the wrong way. And Shia LeBeouf is someone who I keep hoping breaks out to be a serious actor, but I just haven't seen anything to convince me yet. Maybe this will be his big break, maybe not. But I have faith in the cast and the director.

Arrested Development Movie News!!!

According to an interview with Jason Bateman conducted by Digitalspy, Bateman states that the Arrested Development film is on course to be shot next year. I tried to get the interview video on here, but the video is being a prick, so I'll just direct you to go to the digitalspy site, which you should be able to click above. In the view he goes a bit more in depth with the film, plus he talks about his favorite line given by the one and only Tobias Funke.

More Monday News!

I'm not sure how many of you share the same love for Dustin Hoffman like I do, but finding out that Dustin Hoffman is making his first appearance behind the scenes as a director, I got really (excuse my language) fucking excited. Dustin Hoffman's first film will be based off of the stage play Quartet, which centers on a quartet of celebrated opera singers whose yearly plans to put on a concert in order to raise funds for their opera singers-only retirement home go awry when four of the finest singers in English operatic history living under one roof leads to trouble.

Hoffman has gotten together a cast of some of England's finest actors such as Maggie Smith (The Harry Potter Series, Gosford Park), Billy Connolly (The Last Samurai, The Boondock Saints), Tom Courtenay (Doctor Zhivago, The Dresser), Pauline Collins (Shirley Valentine, You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger), and Michael Gambon (The Harry Potter Series, The King's Speech). The official press release is right here.

London, 12th September 2011… Dustin Hoffman has assembled a cast of Britain’s most virtuoso actors for his feature film directorial debut QUARTET, which starts principal photography today, shooting for nine weeks in and around Buckinghamshire.
BBC Films and DCM Productions present a Headline Pictures and Finola Dwyer Productions production in association with Decca and HanWay Films.
Based on Ronald Harwood’s stage play of the same name, QUARTET features six-time Oscar® nominee and two-time winner Maggie Smith (the Harry Potter series, Downton AbbeyGosford Park), double Oscar® nominee and BAFTA winner Tom Courtenay (The Dresser, Doctor Zhivago, Billy Liar), BAFTA nominee Billy Connolly (Mrs. Brown), Oscar® nominee and BAFTA winner Pauline Collins (Shirley Valentine), Olivier Award-winning Sheridan Smith (Legally Blonde, The Musical) and four-time BAFTA winner Michael Gambon (the Harry Potter series, Gosford Park).
Lifelong friends Wilf (Billy Connolly) and Reggie (Tom Courtenay), together with former colleague Cissy (Pauline Collins), are residents of Beecham House, a home for retired opera singers. Every year on Giuseppe Verdi’s birthday, the residents unite to give a concert to raise funds for their home. But when Jean Horton (Maggie Smith), a former grande dame of the opera fallen on hard times, also Reggie’s ex-wife and the fourth and most celebrated member of their former quartet, moves into the home to everyone’s surprise, the plans for this year’s concert start to unravel. As old grudges threaten to undermine past glories and theatrical temperaments play havoc with the rehearsal schedule, it becomes apparent that having four of the finest singers in English operatic history under one roof offers no guarantee that the show will go on. QUARTET is a joyous and entertaining film about redefining old age and growing old with hope, demonstrating how art illuminates life and the human spirit remains undimmed even as the brightest stars start to fade.
First-time director Dustin Hoffman is one of the world’s most celebrated actors. He has received seven Oscar® nominations, winning two Best Actor Awards (forRain Man and Kramer vs. Kramer), and ten BAFTA nominations as Best Actor, winning four awards, including Best Actor for both Tootsie and Midnight Cowboyand Most Promising Newcomer in 1969 for The Graduate. He will next star in Michael Mann and David Milch’s horseracing drama Luck for HBO. Hoffman also serves as a producer on the series.
Sir Ronald Harwood CBE is equally celebrated as author, playwright and screenwriter, with three Oscar® nominations, (winning Best Adapted Screenplay for The Pianist), and four BAFTA nominations, (winning Best Adapted Screenplay in 2008 for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly).
Produced by the Oscar® and four-time BAFTA nominated Finola Dwyer (Finola Dwyer Productions) and Stewart Mackinnon (Headline Pictures, This Little Life), who together with his partner Mark Shivas (Truly Madly Deeply) originally developed the film with BBC Films, QUARTET reunites a number of the creativeteam from Dwyer’s previous production, the Oscar® nominated and BAFTA winning An Education, including Director of Photography John de Borman BSC (Made In DagenhamTsunami: The Aftermath); Production Designer Andrew McAlpine (Made In DagenhamThe Piano); Editor Barney Pilling (One DayNever Let Me Go), Casting Director Lucy Bevan (One DayThe Duchess) and Costume Designer Odile Dicks-Mireaux (One DayThe Constant Gardener). Make-Up / Hair Designer is Daniel Phillips (The Queen, Tsunami: The Aftermath).
QUARTET is financed by BBC Films, DCM Productions and Decca. The Executive Producers are Jamie Laurenson (BBC Films), Dario Suter, Christoph Daniel and Marc Schmidheiny (all from DCM), Dickon Stainer (Decca), Xavier Marchand (Momentum) and Dustin Hoffman.
HanWay are handling international sales on the film and have already completed deals with Momentum for the UK, Transmission for Australia / NZ, Delphi for Germany, Lusomundo for Portugal, A Film for Benelux, Vertice for Spain, Odeon in Greece, Elite Film AG in Switzerland, MG Film in former Yugoslavia, Front Row in the Middle East, Ster-Kinekor in South Africa and Atom Cinema in Taiwan.

The other day I blogged about news involving the new Robert Zemeckis film Flight. Well, I have some more news after the break.

Monday's Movie News!!

Yesterday I was extremely busy and I didn't have much time to post anything new, but today I have the day off and I promise to catch you all up.

And to begin, I'll start with some news focusing on the indie drama The Locals, to be directed by Sue Kramer. The only reason this is big news to me is due to two of the actors who were cast in the movie: Alan Arkin (Little Miss Sunshine, Get Smart) and Vera Farmiga (Up In The Air, Source Code). The movie will be a modern take on the Shakespearean classic which I despise so very much, Romeo and Juliet, but will feature a "Jewish/Italian twist." If that's the case, that makes this movie somewhat more enticing, since everyone loves a bit of Jewish and Italian in their movies. Right away my mind went to The Godfather meets A Serious Man...there's potential here.

Next, Nicholas Braun (Red-State, The Perks of Being A Wallflower) has been cast in Akiva Schaffer's (The Lonely Island material, Hot Rod) comedy Neighborhood Watch. This doesn't particularly interest me at first glance, but taking a look at who else is in the film, you have Ben Stiller (Zoolander, Tropic Thunder), Vince Vaughn (Wedding Crashers, Dodgeball), Jonah Hill (Get Him To The Greek, Superbad), and Rosemary DeWitt (Rachel Getting Married, The Company Men). The film is also written by Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg (Superbad, Pineapple Express). The cast is impressive, and the script should probably be pretty damn funny, and the premise, well, it centers on a group of neighbors who, while trying to keep their streets crime free, find themselves in the middle of a much larger conspiracy. The film is set to be released July 27, 2012.

More news after the break.

Movie Review - Unstoppable

Rating: 7/10

Starting off slow, then slowly gaining momentum, and then going full speed, explains both how the train, and the film, gathers it's title, Unstoppable. The film begins with Dewey (Ethan Suplee) making numerous careless mistakes moving a freight train to a clear track, and then leaving the moving train to throw a misaligned reail switch along the train's path. After getting off the train though, he's not able to climb onto the train, as the throttle jumps from the idle position into full power. And here, our movie begins.

The story is told from several different perspectives, but the one that is the most gripping involves engineer Frank Barnes (Denzel Washington) and conductor Will Colson (Chris Pine). Barnes, being a longtime engineer man, is given the task of breaking in Colson, who is only 4 months on the job. While these two are having their own issues with their train, we're presented to the actions taking place in the station yard, with yard master Connie Hooper (Rosario Dawson) who's in charge of dispatch and operations.

As news of the runaway freight train picks up, Connie is trying to think of the best solution to avoid thousands of people being affected, as we find out that the train is carrying hazardous materials. On the other hand, executive Galvin (Kevin Dunn) is only concerned with the amount of money that'll be lost with the destruction of the train.

As far as the action sequences go, they are over the top, a bit ridiculous at times, but truly amazing and definitely kept the story interesting and suspenseful. The one sequence that will definitely be the highlight of the film for many viewers, including myself, would be the chase scene of the runaway train. I won't reveal anything involving this scene since it's one that you really have to watch for yourself.

Now with a film like this, there isn't much wiggle room to try and develop the characters. And yet, screenwriter Mark Bomback manages to do a fantastic job with the limited space that was given. Pine and Washington are both shown to be drastically different characters, Washington loving the job he's doing while Pine tends to be more of a cynical asshole, but when it comes down to it, we see the characters for who they really are when the circumstances allow it.

Unstoppable definitely brings something new to the action genre, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat. It will demand your full attention, since if you look away, you'll end up missing something big. And the last thing you would want is to be struck by a freight train when you least expect it.

First U.S. Trailer for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy Released

A new trailer for Tomas Alfredson's (Let The Right One In) Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy has been released for the U.S. today. While this trailer pretty much just mashes up the clips from the previous two U.K. trailers, it doesn't make the movie look any less interesting. Reviews from Venice Film Festival are proving what I initially thought about the movie: that it's going to be a real true player come Oscar season. If this film is even half as good as the T.V. series starring Alec Guinness, then I'm pretty certain this may just be the best film of the year.

See the trailer here, and you won't be disappointed.

The cast of this film consists of Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Toby Jones, John Hurt, Mark Strong, Ciarán Hands...do you need any other reason to see it? If you do, then I'll post the premise of the movie up right now. The movie will be released December 9, 2011.

The Three Stooges Set To Be Released April 4, 2012

THR reports that The Three Stooges, directed by The Farrelly Brothers, will be released April 4, 2012. The basic plot of the movie will be split into three pieces that follow Mo, Larry and Curly as they try to save their childhood home, but then somehow get involved in a murder plot and in a modern day twist, will end up being the stars of a reality TV show.

...What? I had a bit of hope for this movie at first but after reading what it'll be about, I think this will end up being a disaster. If it ends up being a good movie, then good for The Farrelly Brothers and everyone involved. I just wouldn't get my hopes up that high.

Sean Hayes will star as Larry, Will Sasso as Curly, and Chris Diamantopoulos rounds out the trio as Mo. Jane Lynch, Jennifer Hudson, Sophia Vergara, and Larry David are also set to star.

Robert Zemeckis and Denzel Washington take aim for "Flight"

Director Robert Zemeckis (Back To The Future 1-3; Castaway) will be directing the film "Flight", which will star Denzel Washington (Training Day, Glory). Zemeckis is a fun director to watch and will always be known for the Back To The Future trilogy, and it'll be interesting to see what comes from this, as this is his first live-action film since Castaway. Denzel Washington has always been a favorite of mine, and I'm excited to see him take on a movie that, just from the premise alone, sounds like it could be a potential hit film.

Below is the official press release from Paramount:

HOLLYWOOD, CA (September 9, 2011) – Paramount Pictures announced today that Academy Award ® winner Denzel Washington will star, and Academy Award ® winning director Robert Zemeckis will helm, FLIGHT for the studio. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald will produce under the Parkes/MacDonald production banner along with Zemeckis, Steve Starkey, and Jack Rapke under their ImageMovers banner. The movie is set to begin shooting this October in Atlanta, GA.
Written by John Gatins (“Dreamer: Inspired By a True Story,” “Real Steel”), FLIGHT tells the redemption story of “Whip” (Washington), a commercial airline pilot who pulls off a heroic feat of flying in a damaged plane, saving 98 lives on a flight carrying 106 people. While the world begs to embrace him as a true American Hero, the everyman struggles with this label as he is forced to hold up to the scrutiny of an investigation that brings into question his behavior the night before the doomed flight.
The project marks first ever teaming of Washington and Zemeckis, while also marking a return to live-action for the director, who previously helmed such hits as “Castaway,” “Forest Gump,” “Back To The Future,” and the live-action & animated classic “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”.
Zemeckis is repped by CAA, Washington is repped by WME and Gatins is repped by UTA.
